A candle is not merely a source of light: it creates an atmosphere, works magic into celebrations, and carries with it the special beauty of handcrafted creation.

In a two-day workshop, participants will experience firsthand how natural and traditional materials become unique handmade candles. During the workshop, they will become familiar with the most important techniques, materials and tools of traditional candlemaking, and will create several different types of candles using three different materials.

In practice, we will try making coloured, cast and scented moulded candles, participants will become acquainted with the traditional technique of dipped taper candles, and will discover the versatility of beeswax. The different materials and methods offer different possibilities, so every participant will experience how much difference the choice of material, form, colour, fragrance and production method makes.

Participants will master the fundamentals of candlemaking step by step: they will learn the preparation of materials, the proper selection and placement of the wick, the casting and dipping process, and the possibilities for shaping and decorating candles.

Theoretical and practical leader of the workshop: Forgács Kata, candlemaker

Workshop duration: 15 hours

Registration deadline: 30 September 2026 on the www.bmne.hu website
