"Imagine shapes and motifs being born anew beneath your hands, the likes of which your ancestors crafted more than a thousand years ago."
During the workshop, participants will gain insight into the exciting world of coppersmithing and historical metalworking.
You will become acquainted with traditional decorative forms, the characteristic motifs of period objects, and the craft techniques through which flat sheet metal can be transformed into plastic, decorated and functional objects. Throughout the workshop process, we will guide you from design through to execution.
During the course you can master the most important basic and advanced techniques of coppersmithing, including: repoussé – creating patterns and surfaces with various striking tools, chasing – shaping finer lines, details and plastic surfaces, embossing – spatial forming of the sheet and emphasizing motifs, soldering – permanently joining separate metal elements, using the jeweler's saw – making precise, intricate cutouts and openwork patterns. One of the workshop's special features is that everyone does not have to follow the production of a predetermined object.
Based on your own interests and ideas, you can choose from among feasible objects: hair braid disk, bracelet, earring, pendant, hair clasp, belt buckle, metal ornament for a book, etc.
