Felt and leather lamp-making workshop for intermediate participants
30 hours - organised by the Békés County Folk Art Association in Békéscsaba
Workshop leaders: Edina Halmai, felt maker and Veronika Somos, leather craftsperson, folk craft artists
Over this two-weekend gathering, participants will create a unique hanging lamp made from natural materials. Through collaborative work, combining felting and leather-working techniques, they will craft a lamp body that is not only practical but also defines the atmosphere of its surroundings as a standalone decorative object. The upper part of the lamp body will be felted by stretching fine wool yarn into shape with the help of template technique. Participants will learn the basics of three-dimensional felting while experiencing how soft wool can be transformed into a stable yet airy lampshade. The felt surface will be further enriched with embossing to create special textures and patterns. The meeting of natural materials is completed by natural-coloured leather attached to the lower rim of the lamp body. The leather will be shaped into exciting, characterful details through overlay or layering techniques.
Everyone can choose from the offered techniques, and by selecting felt colour and thickness, we can create further possibilities for playing with light. This way, special and unique pieces can be created according to each participant's individual taste.
