When the band started out, they became known as a dance house ensemble and as accompanists for dance groups, and soon gained popularity through their own concerts promoting Hungarian and Carpathian Basin folk music from Sweden to Sicily, from Canada to Japan.

In December 1990, a turning point came in the young band's life. They were invited to hold a dance house at a kindergarten, which eventually became a musical storytelling, playful and dance-filled romp. Given its huge success, a continuation was arranged for January, and within a few months a series was completed running from the grape harvest to Whitsunday, in which folk customs are presented to young children in the aforementioned playful way, seasoned with plenty of cheerfulness.

In the following years, they expanded their programme with musical story-plays, and soon after kindergartens, schools, community centres and theatres opened their doors to the Kolompos ensemble, which offers fresh interpretations of Hungarian folk traditions, invites audiences to participate in games, and often makes adults laugh as well.

By the millennium, the ensemble had taken its present form and from then on released new material almost every year, in the form of CDs, DVDs and storybooks.

At the Erzsébetligeti Theatre we have been regular guests for more than a decade, introducing Hungarian folk music, folk dance, old folk customs – in short, the unique cultural treasure our ancestors left us as a legacy – to generations of suburban children and their parents.

The Kolompos dance house promises guaranteed entertainment for every generation of the family!
