Join us to learn beautiful Hungarian folk songs from Mezőség in central Transylvania! This 6-week class series includes a wide range of songs, taught directly from village source recordings. The class is held in English and open to participants of all backgrounds, with no previous experience required.
We have three class times, all friendly, interactive small-group classes covering the same materials: an in-person class on Mondays at 6pm at the Óbuda Folk Music School in Budapest, and online classes on Tuesdays at 7pm and Sundays at 8pm Budapest time (which is morning/midday in North America).
If you are new to the style, come to our orientation this Sunday, September 13, held on Zoom: a Hungarian Pronunciation Class covering all of the letter sounds, and an Introduction to Hungarian Folk Music lecture, which covers the cultural regions, instruments, history, revival, and resources. While it’s more fun to attend live, if that specific time doesn’t work for you, you also can watch those as recorded classes at a later time so that you’re ready to go for the singing classes.
